Boat and Skipper
Argyll Charters' new, spacious catamaran, Mara Mhor, was purpose built for the 2006 season. She runs smoothly and quietly, her twin Perkins engines producing a top speed of 18 knots and cruising comfortably at 14 knots.
The catamaran build offers unparalleled safety and stability in all weather conditions because of the dual hulls and twin engines. She has a flat, very spacious deck area with wheelchair access. The vessel has a large shelter deck where you can sit and enjoy the fresh sea breeze or should the weather take a turn for the worse, passengers are welcome in the roomy wheelhouse from where excellent views can be had just the same.
There is an electric flush toilet on board. There is also an underwater camera on board for use on longer cruises to enable passengers to view the myriad of wildlife under the surface of the water.
Mara Mhor has a full MCA licence for 12 passengers plus 2 crew and is licensed to operate within a 60 mile radius of any safe haven. Ron Stevenson, the skipper and owner of the vessel, has 28 years experience in the waters around Oban and a wealth of knowledge which he is happy to share with you in his lively and informative commentary. He holds both an RYA coastal skipper licence and a local boatmasters' licence.
